How the rate board is read
The source thread is the mortgage rate mega thread on r/MortgagesCanada. A refresh job runs every four hours. It keeps rows that name a rate, a fixed or variable product, and a comment we can link. It does not invent a lender, a term, or an insured flag the writer left out.
The age on a card is the comment time, counted from your clock. "A few hours ago" appears only when the comment is under six hours old. Older posts say the real number of days. The live thread can be ahead of a public archive. When the fetch is blocked, the board keeps the last good rows and does not pretend they were posted today.
Payment math
Canadian mortgages compound semi-annually, not in advance. The monthly rate used here is (1 + annual rate / 2) raised to 1/6, minus 1. Payments on the homepage use $500,000 and 25 years unless you change the calculator.
Policy rate
The overnight rate, Bank Rate, and deposit rate are taken from the Bank of Canada's October 28, 2026 press release. Prime is taken from RBC's posted prime sheet and is not assumed to have moved until that sheet says so.
What a saving means
A saving on this site is the difference in monthly payment between two named rates on one named balance. It is not a lifetime interest total, not a comparison with a bank's unpublished special, and not a promise that a broker will match a stranger's file.
